Dr. Loyce Best Pailen has more than 35 years of experience in IT, having worked in cybersecurity, software development, project management, telecommunications, risk management, and network and systems security and administration. Currently she teaches cybersecurity courses and is the Director for the Center for Security Studies at UMUC. She has held director-level IT positions in private industry and government. Pailen is a project leader for instructional design and provides subject-matter expertise for the creating graduate, undergraduate, community college, and MSDE K-12 Computer Science curriculum. Pailen serves on the board of ISC2-NCR Chapter and the TWG of FISSEA at NIST. Pailen authors a series of children’s books that bring fun and excitement to the topics of cybersecurity for students in grades 3-8. Pailen has introduced the episodes for early education of cyber concepts to support the growing workforce needs of the future. Dr. Pailen has strong commitments to the mission of cybersecurity programs and education. She has a passion for providing opportunities, content and activities to people of all ages who seek knowledge and careers in the cybersecurity arena. Pailen earned her doctoral degree at UMUC. She is also Computer Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certified by (ISC)2.
